Not For Sale

Yesterday I (Tim) was in line at the snack bar at Target to get an Icee to beat the heat. In front of me was a young (20-30 something) dad who was ordering popcorn and a drink for his son. His son also wanted an Icee. The dad asked the clerk the price difference between the Icee and a regular soda. "30 cents" the clerk replied. "I'll just take the soda." the dad said. She gave him his popcorn and empty soda cup and he and his son went over to the soda fountain, which is right next to the Icee machine, and proceeds to fill his soda cup with watermelon Icee. Now I'm sure this happens all the time, but I have never witnessed it. It makes me sad. I'm Sad for a man whose integrity was worth less than 30 cents to himself, and I'm Sad for the lesson he taught his young son. It also forced me to ask myself what my integrity is worth. A humbling question. As believers, when we are tempted, if we rely on Christ's strength, we can boldly say, my integrity is not for sale.
